Beautiful front entry door stripped and refinished in Indianapolis Indiana
The homeowner on Northside Indianapolis, IN asked Home Services Group to bring a beautiful mahogany front entry door back to its original color with a warm, glowing semi gloss finish. They wanted the door to look refreshed while keeping the surrounding stonework flawless, so we planned the work to protect both the wood and the nearby surfaces.
First we carefully protected the surrounding limestone and slate stone. Those surfaces were covered and masked to prevent any accidental contact with the products we would use. Protecting the stone kept the entry looking pristine and allowed us to focus on restoring the door without creating extra cleanup work for the homeowner.
Next we applied a high quality, environmentally safe stripper to the door to release the old finish and stain. Using a safer product helped remove the aged finish without exposing the homeowner or the job site to harsh chemicals. The stripper loosened the old layers so we could remove them cleanly and reveal the natural mahogany beneath.
After the old finish was released we sanded the door down to perfection. Sanding removed any remaining finish and surface imperfections, and it brought out the door's natural grain and carved details. We worked carefully to preserve the mahogany's character while creating a smooth surface that would accept new stain and finish evenly.
With the door prepared, we applied a quality stain chosen to restore the original warm tone. Once the stain had been applied and allowed to set, we finished with an exterior protective semi gloss coating. That semi gloss finish gives the entry a warm, glowing appearance while providing a protective layer against the harsh Indiana elements. The protective finish helps shield the wood from moisture and sun exposure, while keeping the look consistent across the whole door.
This project returned the front entry to its intended color and brought out the rich mahogany details the homeowner wanted to highlight.
